It is the story of the oldest known Michaëlis, Peter (Petris), born in Bettembourg, Luxembourg in 1710, and his suspected father Dominic Michaëlis, a noted scribe in the Holy Roman Church in Luxembourg.

It is the story of Henri Michaëlis who took the perilous voyage in 1847 to America and married Catherine Ruf. Together they started our Michaelis family in America.
